Hivelighter is a highlighting App that lets you save, organize,
and share quotes from your favorite online reads. You can also create
Collections of Hivelights that you can share publicly as a quote-driven reading list.
Hivelighter is available for desktop (Chrome browser) and for mobile (iOS). Android, Safari, and
Firefox extensions coming soon… email us here if you want to know when they are ready.
A Hivelight is a highlighted quote selected from a user’s online reading.
This highlight is packaged with the name of the article, the original source,
and link to the highlight in the context of the full article from which it came,
this way you never lose context.
Creating an account is free, just
sign up
and create a profile.
You can use Apple signup, Facebook signup, or your email.
Desktop: To highlight the web you’ll need to use a Chrome browser and
install the Hivelighter extension (available at the Chrome Web Store).Remember to “pin” the extention so that the Hivelighter button is
always handy when you’re ready to Hivelight.
Mobile: For iOs users head on over to the App Store and follow the instructions to install the mobile app. You’ll be taken through the steps to get started. You won’t need to install the iOs extension, you’ll just need to find it amongst your other iOS extensions (they pop up whenever you “Share” anything in iOS.

Web: Using a mouse or trackpad, select the text you want to Hivelight and
then press the Hivelighter Extension button pinned in the upper right corner
of your Chrome Browser. Just save the hivelight when prompted and
it will be available in your feed, whenever you need it.
iOs: Select the text you want to Hivelight, click “share,” and then select “Hivelighter” from list of apps / share options. Save the hivelight when prompted.

Use Hivelighter’s search bar to discover Hivelights and Collections
of Hivelights on your favorite subjects.
The iOS app also has popular categories that you can flip through (ex: technology, lifestyle, business, etc...).

Use Hivelighter’s search bar to find your friends by name or username.
Click on their username, this will bring you to their profile, and you can then hit “Follow.”
A Collection is a group of Hivelights on a subject or theme of your choice.
You can invite friends to collaborate and add to your Collection, or they can just view it.
Click on the “Collections” tab and “Create a New Collection.” Name your Collection
and pick a folder color for easy filing. If you want to share your Collection
with friends or colleagues, enter their email addresses to invite them to collaborate.
Once you’ve created your Collection, add Hivelights to it by clicking the folder icon under the Hivelight and add it to your Collection. You can add your Hivelights and other user’s Hivelights to your Collections.
The widget that allows you to save your Hivelights also has a folder icon that allows you to save your Hivelights directly into the collection of your choice.

Yes. It’s awesome! You can generate a Public Collection Link.
Once you’ve completed your Collection, you can share it with the world by generating a
Public Collections Link. Click into your Collection, finalize the title
(a catchy title will get more engagement,) and click “Generate Link.”
Once the link is ready you can then copy it and share it via social as your
very own top list, complete with an automatically generated snazzy thumbnail
that will definitely capture everyone’s attention. Check it out. This is one
of our favorite features.
Click the “share” arrow icon underneath the Hivelight and you can share it via email,
messenger, Twitter, Facebook, or simply copy the Hivelight direct url to paste
wherever you like. On iOS you have all the share options on your device available to you.
Yes! Collections allows you to create a collaborative reading group where
you and your friends or colleagues can all add quotes to a Collection.
Simply add their emails in the share box provided when you are ‘creating’
or ‘editing’ your Collection.
Yes! Use the share button to send your Hivelight to anyone.
Yes! Once you are in the Collections tab use the “Generate Link” button
to create a public Collection permalink viewable by anyone.

The “copy” icon copies the permalink of the Hivelight. When you share this
url it will bring people to the highlighted part of the article, allowing
them to read the highlight and the surrounding article.
You can invite friends to join Hivelighter a few different ways:
1) Share a Hivelight with them via text or email, and let them know
you’d love to see them on the platform. 2) Invite them to join a
Collection and they’ll be sent an email with signup instructions.
3) Send them to

Click on the hexagonal “Profile” icon in the upper right and select “Edit Profile.”
You can then change your username, upload/ change your profile picture, and profile description.
“Me” feed: Here you’ll find all your Hivelights.
“My Swarm”: This feed shows only the Hivelights of those you follow.
“Everyone” feed: Everyone’s Hivelights, and a great way to discover new stuff.
“Collections”: Here you’ll find all your Collections.

Web App: Click the “...” icon in the upper right corner of Hivelight, click “Delete.”
iOS: Swipe left on the Hivelight in your ME feed and click “Delete.”

Following a Collection will notify you any time the creator adds new
Hivelights to this Collection. Click “Follow” and you’ll be updated on new content.
